Johannesburg: CNDH participates in the International Migration Conference on Addressing Knowledge Production, Policies and Cooperation

Driss El Yazami, President of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) is participating in the international conference on “the Southern Perspectives on Migration: Addressing Knowledge Production, Policies and Cooperation”. This event is held from 5 to 7 September 2018 in Johannesburg in South Africa.
The purpose of this meeting is to launch “a critical reflection on the state of knowledge, knowledge production and the inter-relationship among knowledge production and producers, activism and creating policy”, underlined the UNESCO. It also aims to “provide a critical space to identify and bridge existing gaps between the supply of migration data, its demand and knowledge-production”.
The President of the CNDH will speak on 6 September 2018 as part of the high-level panel on “The role of international organizations and priorities for Africa in 2019”. Mohamed Sidibay, Peace Activist, global Partnership for Education and Nada Al-Nashif, Assistant Director –General for the Social and Human Sciences at UNESCO will also take part in this panel together with Tendayi Achiume, UN Special Rapporteur on contemporary Forms of Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance and Susan Shabangu, Minister for Social Development in South Africa.
Mr. El Yazami will also participate in the parallel sessions of the UNESCO Office for the Maghreb under the theme “From migration to mobility: rethinking our symbolic representation in a globalized world” which will be held on 7 September 2018.
This international conference will bring together representatives of UNESCO Offices, university experts, specialists and researchers in demography, sociology, applied sciences, political economy, human and social sciences, anthropology, geography, ethnic relations, gender and migration.
This event will be an opportunity to address migration challenges, mobility and social transformation, the role of international organizations, environmental migration and migration government. Particular importance will be given to work and regions issues.
This event is organized by UNESCO Regional Office for South Africa, African Centre for Migration and society at the University of the Witwatersrand (ACMS) and South African National Commission for UNESCO.
