Opening Ceremony of the First Session of the CNDH General Assembly: Maiga Soyata highlighted the joint work conducted by the CNDH, the ACHPR and all the mechanisms of the African Charter of Human and Peoples Rights

Maiga Soyata, President of the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights (ACHPR) of the African Union (AU) and her accompanying delegation took take part in the Opening Ceremony of the First Session of the General Assembly of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) held on 21 September 2019 in Rabat, Morocco.

On this occasion, Mrs. Soyata welcomed the commitment of Amina Bouayach, CNDH Chairperson, and then, she shed lights on the joint work conducted by the CNDH, the ACHPR and all the mechanisms of the African Charter of Human and Peoples Rights involved in leadership at the level of African countries.

The ACHPR Chairperson encouraged Morocco to join the human rights community in Africa and play the role of a leadership. In this regard, she declared that the African community has already showed its interest in all interactions/dialogues among the CNDH, civil society and the ACHPR at the Forum of civil society on migration and asylum that took place in Sharm El Sheikh this year.

Mrs. Soyata was accompanied by Mr. Rémy Ngoy Lumbu, Special Rapporteur of the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights (ACHPR) on Human Rights Defenders, Mr. Mohamed Mabassa Fall, International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) Representative to the African Union and member of the Steering Committee of the African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies, as well as Mrs. Hannah Forster, Executive Director of the same Centre.
