PRESIDENT OF THE PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY OF THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE: “HUMAN RIGHTS ARE VALUES THAT UNITE US”

The President of the Advisory Council on Human Rights met with Mr. Mevlut Cavusoglu, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, on 21 December 2010, at the headquarters of the Council.

Mr. Cavusoglu's visit to Morocco stregthens cooperation and relations between the Parliament Assembly the parliament of Morocco, which aims to obtain the “partner for democracy” status with the Assembly.

During this meeting, attended as well by CCDH Secretary General, Mr. Ahmed Herzenni, CCDH President, briefed the President of the Parliamentary Assembly on the missions and the roles of the Advisory Council in the protection and promotion of human rights. He shed light on the key projects CCDH has launched since its inception, and its cooperations relations with the different partners: national and international NGOs, the government and international institutions.

For his part, Mr. Cavusoglu thanked the President of the Advisory Council on Human Rights for briefing him on the Advisory Council and its missions. He underlined that Morocco is reliable partner, as deem the Council of Europe, indicating that “human rights values unit us”. Praising the commitment of Morocco to reach the European standards in the field of human rights, he indicated that the creation of the Advisory Council on Human Rights is a positive sign by itself.
