CHRONOLOGY OF THE CITIZENSHIP PLATFORM FOR THE PROMOTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS CULTURE

The Citizenship Platform for the promotion of human rights is a national structuring project involving all stakeholders concerned. It started in 2005 and passed through several phases:

- Conducting a study to evaluate initiatives taken by the Kingdom to promote human rights culture;

- July 2005: Organization of the first workshop with main stakeholders in the field (governmental sectors and civil society organizations);

- April 20, 2006: Organization of the second workshop by the initiative of the Advisory Council on Human Rights. Stakeholders representing governmental sectors, civil society organizations and national institutions participated in this workshop;

- Creation of a steering and follow-up committee to develop the Platform with participation of all stakeholders concerned;

- Development of the Platform and determination of the necessary actions following three axes (education, training and awareness);

- Presentation of the Platform and defending it before governmental and non-governmental stakeholders and political leaders to mobilize political, moral and financial support;

- December 20, 2006: Ratification and adoption of the Platform during a workshop organized for this reason;

- February 13, 2007: Presentation of the Platform before the Prime Minister who indicated that the government was committed to the Platform and its provisions and ready to provide human and financial resources for its implementation;

- February 26, 2007:Official declaration of the Platform in Rabat, in the presence of Prime Minister Driss Jettou and CCDH former president, the late Driss Benzekri;

- Follow up and determination of the phases and mechanisms of the Platform implementation;

- October 28, 2009: Appointment of the steering committee in charge of the implementation of the Platform. The committee is composed of representatives of governmental sectors and national institutions, including the Advisory Council on Human Rights, University, mass media and civil society. The appointment ceremony was chaired by the Council and the Prime Ministry;

- December 2009: First meeting of the steering committee of the Platform to form its structure: the Board of the Committee (including the committee’s president, vise-president, secretary general, official in charge of communication, coordinators of the three working groups; three working groups, each corresponding to one of the three axes of the committee (education, training and awareness);

- Adoption of a plan of action to implement the Platform (2011-2014) by the steering committee. The plan of action will be implemented in three phases: preparation, implementation and evaluation;

- September 8, 2010: A meeting between the steering committee and Prime Minister Abass El Fassi, during which Mr. El Fassi was informed of the outline of the committee’s plan of action (2011-2014).
