Mohamed Charef, President of the Regional Human Rights Commission of Agadir was elected Monday, June 10, 2019, member of the Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families (CMW).  This announcement was made at the ninth meeting of States Parties to the Convention on Migrant Workers held in New York.

Mr. Charef competed with nine other candidates for seven vacancies in this committee. He was elected in the first round of the vote with the highest score, 46 votes out of 53 voting countries.

Given his remarkable career and his significant experience in this area, Mr. Charef is an international expert in migration and mobility flows. He is also a consultant to various international organizations on migration policies, economic development, socio-economic integration of migrants, etc.

Based in Geneva, the CMW is the body of 14 independent experts (persons of high moral character, impartiality and recognized competence in the field covered by the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families).  The CMW monitors the implementation of the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families by its State parties.
